Municipal Code Enforcement Board & Special Magistrate Hearings

The Municipal Code Enforcement Board is presided over by a Special Magistrate. The Municipal Code Enforcement Board / Special Magistrate enforces property, maintenance, safety and zoning codes found in the Jacksonville Ordinance Code Chapter 307, Chapter 320, Chapter 326, Chapter 342, Chapter 518, Chapter 656, Chapter 741 and Chapter 745. The Municipal Code Enforcement Board / Special Magistrate shall have the power to issue orders having the force and effect of law to command whatever steps are necessary to bring a violation into compliance.

Legislative Authority: Chapter 162, Florida Statutes; Chapter 91, Jacksonville Ordinance Code

Total Members: A Special Magistrate assigned by the Office of General Counsel.

Committee Duties: The Special Magistrate conducts hearings and assesses fines for individuals who violate local municipal ordinances. This process offers an equitable, efficient, effective, and cost-effective method for enforcing codes and ordinances that are currently in effect in counties and municipalities, especially when there are ongoing or repeated violations.

Meetings

Meeting Schedule: Second Tuesday of each month, or as needed, at 10:00 a.m. in the Ed Ball Hearing Room – 1002, Edward Ball Building, 214 North Hogan Street. (Meeting times and locations are subject to change.)
