The Community Planning Division consists of the Land Use Section and the Historic Preservation Section.
Land Use Section
The Land Use Section is responsible for managing and updating the City's Comprehensive Plan in accordance with State requirements, local policies and programs and in response to citizen-initiated requests. Land Use is charged with reviewing land use map and zoning requests for consistency with the 2045 Comprehensive Plan.
This Section also administers the Manatee Protection Plan and the City's Brownfields Program.

Historic Preservation Section
Historic Preservation handles the review of work in local historic districts and impacts to local landmarks through the Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) process in accordance with the Historic Preservation Element of the 2045 Comprehensive Plan.
