The City of Jacksonville collaborates with public agencies, partner organizations, community groups, and others to advance bicycle and pedestrian safety, connectivity, access, recreation, and active transportation throughout the region.
Jacksonville is also home to a wide range of organizations, clubs, and resources supporting walking, bicycling, running, skating, and other active lifestyles. Whether you're new to the area or a longtime resident, the resources below offer opportunities to get involved, connect with others, and stay active.
Community and Regional Partners
The City continues to work closely with local, regional, and statewide partners to support active transportation initiatives, including:
The North Florida Transportation Planning Organization (North Florida TPO)
The regional transportation planning agency serving Duval, Clay, Nassau, and St. Johns counties. The North Florida TPO leads long-range planning and funding decisions for transportation projects, including bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. Their Bicycle and Pedestrian Program supports regional trail development, safety initiatives, and multimodal connectivity across jurisdictional boundaries.

Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) – District 2
FDOT District 2 is responsible for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of state roadways in Northeast Florida, including many major corridors in Jacksonville. The District works closely with the City and regional partners to implement safety improvements, coordinate traffic operations, and advance bicycle and pedestrian projects on state-owned facilities—particularly along high-injury corridors.

Blue Zones Project Jacksonville
A community-led initiative focused on improving health and well-being by making it easier for residents to move naturally, including walking and bicycling as part of everyday life. Blue Zones Project Jacksonville partners with local organizations and governments to support built environment changes, programs, and policies that encourage active living and safer, more connected communities.

Bike Walk Jax
Bike Walk Jax is a nonprofit organization that advocates for safer, more accessible walking and bicycling in Jacksonville through policy, education, and community engagement.
North Florida Bicycle Club
One of the region’s most active cycling clubs, offering group rides, events, and route information for cyclists of all levels.
VeloBrew Bicycle Club
A local cycling club and racing team that organizes weekly rides, events, and social gatherings for bicycle enthusiasts.
Major Taylor Cycling Club of North Florida
Promotes cycling and community engagement, with a focus on increasing participation and representation within the African American community.
ZenCog
Offers weekly, beginner-friendly urban rides with cultural and informational stops, helping riders explore Jacksonville by bike.

A local bicycle retailer that provides information on group rides, cycling events, and community activities.
Tucker Cycles

Hosts “Explore the Core” social bike rides and community events that highlight Jacksonville’s historic neighborhoods.
Jax Coffee Outside
Organizes monthly, slow-paced social rides with built-in coffee stops and a focus on community and connection.

JTC Running
A long-standing Northeast Florida running club that promotes health, fitness, and fellowship through running programs and events.
Jacksonville Run Club
A local run club that promotes networking, physical fitness, and goal-setting through group runs and community engagement.
Transit and Mobility Resources
Jacksonville Transportation Authority – Bikes on Buses
JTA buses are equipped with front-mounted bicycle racks, allowing riders to combine transit with bicycling for longer trips.
Riders can load their bicycle onto the rack before boarding and remove it when exiting. This option helps extend the reach of bicycle trips and provides a convenient, multimodal travel option.
Skateparks and BMX Facilities
Jacksonville offers a variety of skateparks and BMX facilities that support active lifestyles and provide opportunities for recreation, skill-building, and community connection. Many of these destinations are accessible by walking, bicycling, or other active modes.
The Block Skate Supply
A locally owned skate shop that features a mini skatepark behind the store, offering a unique space for skaters to ride, practice, and connect with the local skate community.
Artist Walk Skate Park
A City-owned skatepark located along the Emerald Trail, featuring a wide variety of skate elements, seating areas, landscaping, and amenities such as water fountains and bicycle parking. The park connects directly to surrounding walking and bicycling routes.
Jacksonville BMX
A nationally recognized BMX track offering racing, practice opportunities, and community events for riders of all skill levels.
Kona Skatepark
One of the world's oldest skateparks, Kona Skatepark is a historic and iconic destination offering a wide range of features for skaters of all experience levels.
Current Interagency Coordination
Bicycle Pedestrian Planning Group (BPPG)
The Bicycle Pedestrian Planning Group (BPPG) is a regional, interagency coordination group hosted by the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization.
The BPPG brings together staff from local governments, regional agencies, and partner organizations to:
- Share best practices
- Coordinate on bicycle and pedestrian projects and programs
- Discuss funding opportunities and implementation strategies
The group is a technical working group and is not a public advisory committee.

Former Advisory Committees
Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC)
The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) was a community-based group that provided a forum for discussion and advocacy related to bicycle and pedestrian issues in Jacksonville.
BPAC was recognized by the City through a commendatory resolution, but was not established as an official City board or commission. As such, its activities were supported administratively rather than legislatively.
The committee is no longer active. The City has transitioned to a new engagement approach that better aligns with current planning efforts and coordination with community partners.

Archives of past Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) meetings, including presentations and supporting materials, are available for the following years:

Context Sensitive Streets Standards Committee (CSSSC)
The Context Sensitive Streets Standards Committee (CSSSC) previously provided input on street design standards and context-sensitive approaches to transportation planning and development.
The committee is no longer active. Elements of its work have been incorporated into ongoing planning processes, including coordination through the City’s Subdivision Standards and Policy Advisory Committee.
