What to Do if Your Address Changes?
Although we make every effort to coordinate address changes with as many entities as possible there are certain tasks that only the property owner and/or resident, can accomplish. Please see the list below of items that will require your attention.
- Notify your phone service provider regarding your address change. The phone company will only change their data at the request of the customer. It is important that you request this change so that the phone company can link your new address to your telephone number.
- Post your new address number on your property. Please post the new address number on your property within 30 days of the effective date for the new address. Failure to do so could result in a citation. The new address should be posted according to the criteria identified in Section 745.103 of the Municipal Code.
- For residential uses, address numbers must be at least 4 inches in height. (If sticky back numbers are placed on a mailbox located near the roadway, then 3 1/2 inch height numbers are acceptable).
- For commercial uses, address numbers must be at least 6 inches in height.
- Address numbers should contrast with the immediate background and must be visible from the street both day and night.
- Address numbers must be placed in a location that is visible from the street. If the residence or business structure is not visible from the street then the address must be posted on mailbox, sign, post, or other structure located near the driveway access to the property.
Change your address on your driver's license and vehicle registration. The State of Florida Department of Safety and Motor Vehicles will waive the $25.00 fee for an address change on your driver's license if you provide a copy of the letter from the City of Jacksonville that identifies your new address. Please note that if you are making this change at a Tax Collector's branch office there will be a service fee of $6.25 for the driver's license and a $2.50 fee for the vehicle registration. Due to new Federal and State requirements for the renewal and replacement of driver's licenses you will need to show proof of: 1) identification, 2) Social Security number and 3) residential address (two items). - Change the address number on your JEA meter enclosure. JEA requires that the correct address number be identified on the meter enclosure. Failure to identify the new address on the meter box may result in a delay of service should JEA be requested to perform work on site.
- Notify all entities in which you correspond. The City of Jacksonville Addressing Section notifies the United States Postal Service (USPS) of all address changes. Once the Post Office receives notification of an address change they link the old and new address together so that mail will continue to be delivered to both the old and new address for a period of one year. Even though the Post Office is aware of this change it will still be necessary for you to contact all entities in which you personally correspond to ensure that they are aware of your new address. Since our office has already contacted the USPS on your behalf it is not necessary for you to provide the Post Office with a change of address card.

- Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA)
- Duval County Property Appraiser's Office
- Duval County School Board
- Supervisor of Elections
- City of Jacksonville Building Inspections Division
