Obtaining Addresses for Single Family Residential Subdivisions
Addresses will be assigned to a site plan for a Single Family Residential Subdivision once the street names have been approved and the plan has completed preliminary engineering review by the Development Management Group (DMG). The Addressing Section requires that an AutoCAD file be submitted of the subdivision that is to be addressed. In addition, the following information will need to be submitted along with the AutoCAD drawing:
- Subdivision or Project Name (pre-approved by Public Works)
- City Development Number (CDN)
Out parcels or easements that will require a separate address. - If subdivision is a unit or phase of a larger development then existing phases should be identified.
Addresses will be assigned to all identified and labeled lots, parcels, tracts, structures, and any labeled facility that would require a separate address assignment including but not limited to a guard house, gate, or JEA lift station.
Digital Subdivision Record Plat (AutoCAD File)
The purpose of the digital record plat submittal is to maintain the integrity of City of Jacksonville GIS base layers. Digital submissions should adhere to the following requirements:
- Georeferencing
- File must be georeferenced to NAD 83 State Plane Florida East at 1:1 drawing scale in US survey feet.
- Verify coordinates are correct; incorrect georeferencing will cause the subdivision to appear in the wrong location (e.g., offshore).
- Minimum CAD Content
- Include only: roadway centerlines, roadway alignments, lots with lot numbers, and building footprints (Townhomes and Multifamily only).
- Cleaning & Purging
- Remove extraneous features: sidewalks, easement lines, SWMF (stormwater) lines, hatches, and non‑essential layers.
- Run PURGE (or equivalent) command to clean unused blocks, layers, line types, and any other extraneous information.
- All polygons must close.
- Adjoining/existing streets must be clearly shown and labeled.
- Civil Plan Final Approval
- Civil plans must be Final Approved before addresses are assigned (Policy effective as of June 2024)*
Once all of the requirements above have been met, please send the AutoCAD file to Address@coj.net
NOTE: Before sending a CAD File for address assignments, it would be appreciated if projects are not pending any future revisions to the layout or lot orientation/configuration. If revisions are anticipated, please let the Addressing Section know when submitting a CAD file to receive addresses.
