Animal Services Officers

Animal Care and Protective Services is more than a shelter. We are a public safety agency serving the residents and pets of Jacksonville.

Our Field Services Division includes:

  • 2 Animal Services Supervisors

  • 3 Senior Animal Services Officers

  • 12 Animal Services Officers

  • 2 Special Investigators

  • 1 Dispatcher

This team responds to thousands of calls for service each year across Duval County. They are the front line of animal-related public safety and animal welfare enforcement in our community.

What Our Team Does

Animal Services Officers are trained in animal handling, investigative procedures, evidence documentation, and enforcement of local ordinances and Florida law. Their responsibilities include:

  • Reuniting lost pets with their families

  • Investigating animal bites and potential rabies exposures

  • Responding to aggressive or dangerous animal situations

  • Addressing nuisance complaints and public safety concerns

  • Investigating reports of animal cruelty and neglect

  • Enforcing local animal-related laws and regulations

  • Providing education and resources to help pet owners remain compliant

  • Responding to emergencies involving animals

Our Special Investigators handle complex cruelty cases, long-term investigations, and cases requiring detailed documentation and court preparation. They work closely with law enforcement and the legal system to ensure accountability when serious violations occur.

Our Dispatcher serves as the critical communication link between the public and our field team, ensuring calls are prioritized appropriately and officers are deployed quickly and efficiently.

A Community-Focused Approach

While enforcement is a critical part of our mission, education and prevention are equally important. Our team works to resolve issues through problem-solving, responsible pet ownership education, and access to available resources whenever possible.

Every call is handled with professionalism, fairness, and a commitment to protecting both people and animals.
