Mayor Deegan's River City Readers Program

ACPS_RCR-Logo.png

Our location of the River City Readers Program pairs children with shelter animals for reading time. Supported by a generous donation of the books “Love me Gently” and “Gray Whiskers” from Tails that Teach, children can read age-appropriate books about pet ownership and provide a no-contact form of socialization and enrichment for our dogs and cats.

This program:

  • Helps kids build reading confidence
  • Provides calm, positive interaction for shelter animals
  • Encourages compassion and patience
  • Creates a positive experience for both children and pets

It’s a simple, powerful way to support literacy while enriching the lives of animals in our care.
