Welcome to the City of Jacksonville, Military Affairs and Veterans Department (MAVD). We have an amazing and talented team of professionals who are dedicated to providing you with timely and competent services and answers to your questions. We are an advocate for the expansion of military Infrastructure, personnel and jobs within the City of Jacksonville and throughout Northeast Florida. The Department team works closely with military, business, community, and elected leaders at the local, state, and national levels to deliver a compelling message that Jacksonville is the most "Military and Veteran Friendly City in the United States" and that Jacksonville is strategically important ot the security posture of the nation.

PURPLE HEART RECOGNITION DAY

On Purple Heart Day, observed every year on August 7, we honor and remember the brave current and former service members who were wounded or killed in action while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. As the very first and oldest military medal, the Purple Heart was established by George Washington in 1782.

Every 2nd Thursday a VSO will be at the Charles Webb Wesconnett Regional Library to provide general information on MAVD services, HVRP, tax preparation and upcoming events. .  They can also assist clients with completing an Intent to File claim.

Harrison Conyers

Harrison Conyers was first appointed by Mayor John Delaney as a Management and Planning Analyst for Community Services in January 1996 and also served as the Deputy Director of Quality Services for the Jacksonville Children’s Commission from 1997 -2005.

As the Director, Military Affairs and Veterans Department, he serves as military liaison to all military commands in Duval County for the City of Jacksonville and the strategic advisor to the Mayor on matters related to the military.
