Our Mission

The mission of the Military Affairs and Veterans Department is to Serve the Citizens of Jacksonville with Respect, Timely Competent Services, Integrity and Effective Advocacy.


How We Serve You

MAVD is a one-stop resource center offering:

  • Veterans' Benefits Assistance -  Guidance on VA claims, healthcare enrollment, pensions, disabbility compensation, and more
  • Employment & Social Services - Support for Veterans seeking jobs, vocatinal training, housing assistance, and financial aid.
  • Community Outreach & Advocacy - Raising awareness of Veterans' issues through events, partnerships, and public engagement..

Veterans Service Officers

Our County Veteran Service Officers (VSOs) are certified professionals trained to assist Veterans and their families in filing claims and securing benefits.  They act as advocates for Veterans, ensuring their cases are handled properly and efficiently.  Services include:

Identifying benefits & entitlements specific to you
Providing free expert advise on your claim
Filing paperwork and advocating for you through the claims process
Connecting you with additional resources & support services

Who We Serve

Our primary service area is Duval County, but we strive to assist Veterans outside the county whenever possible.
