Urgent: ACPS Needs 100 Fosters and Adopters to Ease Overcrowding Due to Higher-than-Average Intake

The City of Jacksonville’s Animal Care and Protective Services (ACPS) is in urgent need of fosters and adopters to help get 100 dogs out of the shelter. The shelter, whose capacity is 264 dogs, currently houses 377 dogs. This means that nearly 100 dogs share a kennel, cutting their living space in half.

Mayor Donna Deegan presented the proposed 2025-2026 budget to the Jacksonville City Council this morning. This balanced budget – which takes zero dollars from our reserves – includes a $2 billion general fund budget and $687 million in the FY26 portion of the five-year Capital Improvement Plan, which is $1.7 billion in total from 2026-2030.
