In partnership with the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville, Mayor Lenny Curry will announce the selection of the public art project for the Duval County Courthouse lawn.
The announcement follows a national search and months of dialogue with community input. After receiving more than 140 submissions, the Art in Public Places committee selected three proposals from some of the most experienced and prominent public artists in the United States for consideration. The three finalists for the Duval County Courthouse plaza project are:
  • Cliff Garten, Cliff Garten Studio – Venice, CA
  • Walter Hood, Hood Design Studio – Oakland, CA
  • Matt Niebuhr and Dave Dahlquist RDG Art Studio – Des Moines, IA
The three-acre lawn of the Courthouse will become a safe, active urban park with multiple spaces for small events, free speech, and sculptures. View the Cultural Council’s website for more information.

Event Gives Participants the Chance to Walk, Run and Bike the Planned Urban Trail

The inaugural VyStar Emerald Trail 5K presented by JTC Running and 1st Place Sports will be Sat., Nov. 21, 2020 and give runners, walkers and cyclists an up-close look at multiple points of interest along a portion of what will become the Emerald Trail. All proceeds benefit Groundwork Jacksonville in designing the Emerald Trail, the city’s 30-mile urban trail and linear park system that will link 16 schools, two colleges and 21 parks among other destinations like restaurants, retail and businesses.

Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program Public Comment

July 30, 2020 - August 10, 2020
The City of Jacksonville is eligible to receive funding under the Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Local Solicitation. JAG is established within the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) of the US Department of Justice (DOJ). JAG funding will provide Jacksonville with the opportunity to reduce crime and improve public safety through the implementation of diverse strategies and crime prevention programs that foster cooperation between community residents and law enforcement personnel.

The proposed application for use of JAG funds will be available to the public for comment and review until Monday, August 10th, 2020.
