City of Jacksonville Recruiting Lifeguards for 2026 Pool Season

March 18, 2026
The City of Jacksonville is now hiring lifeguards for the upcoming 2026 pool season and is encouraging interested applicants to apply.

This opportunity is open to individuals ages 15 and up, offering a great way for teens and young adults to gain valuable work experience while serving their community. Lifeguards play a critical role in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of residents at public pools throughout the city.

Starting pay is $15 per hour, and training is available. Applicants will receive instruction in water safety, rescue techniques, and CPR, equipping them with essential life-saving skills and confidence on the job.

The prerequisite skills are:

  • 200-yard swim

  • 2 minutes of treading water without using hands

  • Retrieving a 10-pound brick from the bottom of the diving well.

Those interested in applying or learning more about lifeguard positions are encouraged to visit careers at Jacksonville.gov, email bealifeguard@coj.net or call 904-255-6777 or 904-255-4271.

Join the team this summer and make a difference while staying active and building lifelong skills.
