Memorial Traffic Garden Ribbon Cutting at Ed White High School

March 31, 2026
Join the City of Jacksonville and community partners on April 1 for the ribbon cutting of a memorial traffic garden honoring a student and promoting roadway safety.

The City of Jacksonville Transportation Planning Division (Bicycle and Pedestrian Program), in partnership with community and education leaders, will participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony for a Memorial Traffic Garden at Ed White High School on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 10:30 a.m.

This project is part of Jacksonville’s Vision Zero Action Plan and was implemented at Ed White High School, an area that has experienced a high number of traffic crashes. The traffic garden also serves as a memorial honoring the life of Ed White student-athlete Alaysha Williams, whose tragic loss highlighted the importance of roadway safety.

Developed through a collaboration between Blue Zones Project Jacksonville, Duval County Public Schools, and the City of Jacksonville Planning Department, the traffic garden is designed to:

  • Promote safe walking and biking behaviors
  • Increase visibility and awareness of roadway safety
  • Encourage youth engagement and community pride
  • Support safer streets through creative, data-informed design

The project reflects a shared commitment to creating safer, more connected neighborhoods and protecting Jacksonville’s young people.

The ribbon cutting event will include remarks from community leaders, including representatives from Duval County Public Schools, City leadership, and project partners.
