Mayor Donna Deegan today celebrated the opening of the Lone Star Road Extension, an approximately $1.5 million infrastructure investment that improves connectivity along the Lone Star Road–Tredinick Parkway corridor from Mathews Manor Drive to Southside Connector Boulevard. The new roadway opened to the public on Friday, February 13, 2026.

The project transformed the corridor with a new roundabout, enhanced roadway connections, and a shared-use asphalt path for pedestrians and cyclists, along with new lighting and landscaping. The improvements reflect the city's commitment to building infrastructure that meets the needs of Jacksonville's fastest-growing communities while enhancing safety and livability for all residents.

"Jacksonville is growing, and our infrastructure has to grow with it," said Mayor Deegan. "This is exactly what 'I Dig Jax' is all about — digging in and doing the hard work to make sure our neighborhoods have the roads, connections, and community spaces they deserve. The Lone Star Road Extension is a smart investment in Arlington’s future, and I'm proud that we delivered it for the residents and businesses who call this part of our city home."

The project's design dates back to October 2021, when the design phase was initiated to address long-anticipated – and long-term connectivity - needs in the rapidly developing Arlington area. Design work was completed in July 2024, and construction officially broke ground on April 16, 2025. The project reached substantial completion on February 4, 2026, delivering a modern, multi-modal corridor that reflects the city's broader vision for infrastructure investment.

“Through this collaboration with the Mayor’s Office we keep opening new doors and doing new things to make our community better,” said Councilman Ken Amaro. “For Arlington, this is a long-awaited roadway that will make commuting so much easier.”

The Southside corridor is among the most active growth areas in Jacksonville, with new residential and commercial development continuing to drive demand for improved transportation infrastructure. The Lone Star Road Extension positions the surrounding communities for continued growth while ensuring that existing residents benefit from safer, more connected streets.
