COURSE TITLE: The ABC's of the New ADA and the FACBC - Advanced
NUMBER OF CLASSROOM HOURS: 2 Hours - 2 CEU Advanced Course
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This Advanced Building Code course addresses the specific requirements of the updated Florida Accessibility Code for Building Construction and the 2010 ADA Standards. The course will instruct attendants in the specific requirements for: the accessible route, accessible parking requirements, the issue of Florida’s specific requirements regarding vertical accessibility, providing accessible toilet rooms, bathrooms and toilet stalls. There will be an update as to where the Federal Access Board and the Department of Justice are with their requirements for accessibility. When the course has been completed attendant will have a better understanding of the applicable accessibility requirements.

Brad Gaskins, AIA, CASp, NCARB
Brad is bringing accessibility into the spotlight nationally, making a direct impact on the quality of life for disabled individuals. Since attending his first ADA seminar in 1992, Brad has educated himself, as well as business owners, peers and allied professionals on the importance of accessible facilities. He has spoken for numerous organizations, events and conferences including NATSO, NACS, FBI, NFMT, ICC and Commercial Construction & Renovation (CCR) Summit. Larry Schneider, AIA
Larry M. Schneider AIA has been involved with the accessibility codes for the State of Florida since 1985 where he served as a member of the Department of Community Affairs Special Task Force to rewrite the Florida Accessibility Code. This resulted in the 1990 edition of the Florida Accessibility Manual. In 1992 he was appointed to the Florida Board of Building Codes and Standards and was elected its chair in 1993 and served as the chairmen of that board until 1996. He was the representing architect on the rewrite of the Florida Accessibility Code from 1993 - 1997 to harmonize it with the requirements of the ADAAG Guidelines to obtain DOJ's certification and was the lead person in getting revisions to the Florida Statutes in the creation of the 2012 FACBC. He is a past AIA Florida State President, past AIA Region Director for the Florida - Caribbean Region, recipient of AIA Florida's Gold Medal, AIA Palm Beach's Gold Medal, Florida's Governor's Award for Extraordinary Title III Compliance Award, AIA National Component Excellence Award for An Outstanding Individual Contribution to Government Affairs for Spearheading Legislation to Establish a Unified Statewide Building Code for the State of Florida. He served as AIA’s representative on the ANSI A117.1 Committee from 2000 to 2024 which creates the national guidelines for accessibility compliance and use. He has been a speaker at past AIA Florida Conferences, at the AIA National Convention and at numerous Building Code Officials Conferences as well as to government municipalities and school districts on compliance with the Fair Housing Act, the ADA and the Florida Accessibility Code for Building Construction. He was co-editor of the Pocket Guide to the Florida Accessibility Standards. He currently provides general accessibility consulting services to clients in the public and private sector as it relates to Title II and III of the ADA as well as the Fair Housing Act.
