What Are You Missing in Accessibility: 2025 and Beyond

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is a deep dive into the ADA including definitions, timelines, history and with an emphasis on real live experiences. It will include a detailed discussion over the 2010 ADA Standards and how it applies to architects and engineers in 2025 and beyond. Attendees will be given a detailed look at the commonly overlooked and misunderstood requirements of the ADA Standards that are found in the real world. In addition, the 2023 Florida Accessibility Code for Building Construction which overlaps and adds to the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design will be touch upon.

Advanced Accessibility Compliance - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly – Or Why Did I Do That???

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This Advanced Building Code course addresses the specific requirements of the Florida Accessibility Code for Building Construction and the ADA. The course will instruct attendants in the common errors that have and are occurring in construction relating to accessibility issues.  There will be an update as to what the Federal Access Board and the Department of Justice is looking at as it relates to requirements for accessibility. When the course has been completed attendant will have a better understanding of the applicable accessibility requirements and the areas to be watchful of.

Brad Gaskins, AIA, CASp, NCARB
Brad GaskinsBrad is bringing accessibility into the spotlight nationally, making a direct impact on the quality of life for disabled individuals. Since attending his first ADA seminar in 1992, Brad has educated himself, as well as business owners, peers and allied professionals on the importance of accessible facilities. He has spoken for numerous organizations, events and conferences including NATSO, NACS, FBI, NFMT, and Commercial Construction & Renovation (CCR) Summit. He represents NACS, The National Association of Convenience Stores, on the ANSI A117.1 committee which develops the ANSI Standard, Standard for Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities, and has been part of the development of the 2017 Edition and the 2025 Edition. His topics focus on ADA training and compliance, as well as what indivials and organizations should know to be strategic in achieving their compliance.

Larry Schneider, AIA
Larry SchneiderLarry M. Schneider, AIA is the Principal of his own architectural practice, bringing more than four decades of experience in design, accessibility, and building code leadership. A graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Architecture (1973), Mr. Schneider has built a distinguished career balancing architectural practice with statewide and national leadership in accessibility compliance.

He previously served as Accessibility, Value Analysis, and Partnering Coordinator with Dade Aviation Consultants at Miami International Airport and as a founding principal of Currie Schneider Associates, AIA, PA, a firm recognized with numerous design awards from AIA Florida, AIA Palm Beach, and the State of Florida Trust for Historical Preservation.

Since 1985, Mr. Schneider has played a pivotal role in shaping accessibility codes in Florida and beyond. He served on the task force that produced the 1990 Florida Accessibility Manual, chaired the Florida Board of Building Codes and Standards from 1993–1996, and represented the architectural profession in multiple revisions of the Florida Accessibility Code to align with ADA Standards and DOJ requirements. Nationally, he served on the AIA committee for ADAAG revisions and as the AIA representative to the ANSI A117.1 Committee, establishing accessibility guidelines referenced by the International Building Code for over two decades.

A Past President of AIA Florida and former member of the AIA National Board of Directors, Mr. Schneider has received the AIA Florida Gold Medal, the Charles W. Cleary Government Service Award, the Anthony L. Pullara Award, and the Governor’s Award for Extraordinary Title III Compliance, among others. A frequent national speaker, he continues to advise public and private clients on ADA Title II & III and Fair Housing Act compliance.
