COOLING CONTINGENCY PLAN REMAINS ACTIVATED, EXTREME HEAT WARNING ISSUED

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Duval County today from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with heat index values reaching up to 115 degrees. Dangerous heat is expected to persist through Friday, and the City of Jacksonville Cooling Center Contingency Plan remains active in response.

MAYOR DEEGAN’S NEXT BUDGET TOWN HALL TO TAKE PLACE ON AUGUST 19th

Mayor Deegan is hosting a new round of Budget Town Halls across the city to discuss the proposed FY 2026-2027 budget, which prioritizes public safety, infrastructure, health, and housing.

JFRD CORE Program Named Top 10 in Florida, Awarded $64,000

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) is proud to announce that its Coordinated Opioid Recovery (CORE) Program has been recognized as one of the top 10 performing CORE networks in the state for Fiscal Year 2025-26, earning a $64,000 award from Lutheran Services Florida (LSF) to help supplement its ongoing efforts supporting individuals suffering from opioid use disorder.

City Council

The City Council is the legislative body of the City of Jacksonville's consolidated government and is responsible for making the laws that govern our way of life.  These 19 Council Members, who are elected to four-year terms and serve as part-time legislators, have almost unlimited power to enact legislation in order to provide for the needs of our community. For fair representation throughout the community, the city is divided into 14 districts of nearly equal population and each of these districts elects a single council member.  The other five council members represent the entire community 'at large.'
