EASTSIDE CBA BOARD AND FUNDING FOR JFRD AND BLIGHT INITIATIVES MOVE FORWARD

Last night, the Jacksonville City Council passed Ordinances 2025-0900 and 2026-0036. Together, they deliver on Mayor Deegan’s commitment to make good on the broken promises of consolidation; clean up litter and blight; continue funding critical public safety needs; and maintain fiscal discipline with an eye toward the future.

JACKSONVILLE SELECTED AS A U.S. CIVIL RIGHTS TRAIL EXPANSION SITE

The U.S. Civil Rights Trail is expanding in 2026, with the addition of historic sites in Virginia, Louisiana, Tennessee and Jacksonville, Florida, offering travelers new destinations to explore pivotal stories, places, and voices that shaped the nation’s civil rights movement.

City Council

The City Council is the legislative body of the City of Jacksonville's consolidated government and is responsible for making the laws that govern our way of life.  These 19 Council Members, who are elected to four-year terms and serve as part-time legislators, have almost unlimited power to enact legislation in order to provide for the needs of our community. For fair representation throughout the community, the city is divided into 14 districts of nearly equal population and each of these districts elects a single council member.  The other five council members represent the entire community 'at large.'
