Phase III Water Shortage Remains in Effect
The St. Johns River Water Management District’s Phase III Extreme Water Shortage remains in effect. Landscape irrigation is limited to one day per week and is prohibited between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Odd-numbered or no-address homes may water Saturday; even-numbered homes Sunday; nonresidential properties Tuesday. Learn more about current watering restrictions and conservation requirements.
Duval County Burn Ban Lifted
The Duval County burn ban has been lifted. Under Jacksonville Municipal Code Section 420.201, all outdoor open burning in Duval County is prohibited year‑round without a permit, including on residential properties. Burning household waste, yard waste, or construction materials is illegal. The only allowable burning is land‑clearing debris from the initial clearing of vegetation on commercial properties, and it requires an open‑burning permit. For permit information, contact the Environmental Quality Division at (904) 255‑7100.

The Jacksonville City Council is composed of nineteen members who are elected for a four-year term and serve as part-time legislators. In May of each year, the Council elects a President and Vice President to serve one-year terms beginning the first of July. The nineteen members are not all elected in the same manner; some are elected from districts, and others are elected at large.

CITY OF JACKSONVILLE LAUNCHES FIRST COMPREHENSIVE FOOD PLAN
The City of Jacksonville introduced its first-ever Jacksonville Food Plan yesterday, marking a major milestone in the city’s efforts to build a stronger, more equitable, and more sustainable food system. By supporting urban farming, strengthening distribution channels, addressing food deserts, and reducing waste, the city aims to create an equitable and sustainable food environment for all residents.
Coastal flood watch in effect as strong northeast winds threaten moderate to major tidal flooding
The City of Jacksonville’s Emergency Preparedness Division is closely monitoring a weather system expected to affect Duval County from Saturday, October 24, into early next week, and is in regular contact with the National Weather Service to monitor potential local impacts.
City of Artists Exhibition to Open October 12
The City of Jacksonville is pleased to announce that City of Artists, its National Arts Program exhibition, will open with a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 12. City Council Vice President Joe Carlucci and Darnell Smith, Mayor Deegan’s Chief of Staff, will deliver brief remarks at the event.

The City Council is the legislative body of the City of Jacksonville's consolidated government and is responsible for making the laws that govern our way of life. These 19 Council Members, who are elected to four-year terms and serve as part-time legislators, have almost unlimited power to enact legislation in order to provide for the needs of our community. For fair representation throughout the community, the city is divided into 14 districts of nearly equal population and each of these districts elects a single council member. The other five council members represent the entire community 'at large.'
