In May of each year, the Council elects a President and Vice President to serve one-year terms beginning the first of July. The nineteen members are not all elected in the same manner; some are elected from districts, and others are elected at large.

Update on Resolution of City Network Issues

September 13, 2024

Our technical team has been working with their key vendor partners to troubleshoot the network configuration issue identified on Wednesday, September 11. Initial root cause appears to be the failure of a piece of hardware on the network.

Jacksonville Ethics Commission Seeking Applicants to Fill Vacancy for Term Beginning January 1, 2025

The Ethics Commission has a long, distinguished history in the City of Jacksonville of ensuring transparent and open government for the citizens. Among its many outstanding accomplishments, the Ethics Commission has drafted and implemented the Jacksonville Ethics Code and successfully assisted in the establishment of an independent Office of Ethics, Compliance and Oversight that is primarily responsible for administering the Ethics Code. Per Chapter 602, Part 9 of the Jacksonville Ordinance Code, the Ethics Commission performs numerous functions, including assisting the Office of Ethics, Compliance and Oversight, and consideration of any potential violation of the Jacksonville Ethics Code.

This year’s matchup will feature a thrilling contest between the Jacksonville University Dolphins and the University of Florida Gators, coinciding with the excitement of the Georgia-Florida football weekend.

City Council

The City Council is the legislative body of the City of Jacksonville's consolidated government and is responsible for making the laws that govern our way of life. These 19 Council Members, who are elected to four-year terms and serve as part-time legislators, have almost unlimited power to enact legislation in order to provide for the needs of our community. For fair representation throughout the community, the city is divided into 14 districts of nearly equal population and each of these districts elects a single council member. The other five council members represent the entire community 'at large.'
