JFRD Takes Action in Response to Extended Cold Weather Event; Urges Residents to TAKE PRECAUTIONS

As an extended period of very cold temperatures impacts Northeast Florida through early next week, with nightly freezes forecast and dangerously cold wind chills, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) has implemented measures to protect apparatus and equipment from freezing temperatures, including:

The National Weather Service is forecasting a significant temperature swing for our area. After near-record warmth on Sunday with temperatures forecast in the 80s, a strong arctic cold front will push through Sunday night, bringing isolated to scattered thunderstorms and a sharp turn to much colder conditions on Monday.

City Council

The City Council is the legislative body of the City of Jacksonville's consolidated government and is responsible for making the laws that govern our way of life.  These 19 Council Members, who are elected to four-year terms and serve as part-time legislators, have almost unlimited power to enact legislation in order to provide for the needs of our community. For fair representation throughout the community, the city is divided into 14 districts of nearly equal population and each of these districts elects a single council member.  The other five council members represent the entire community 'at large.'
