CITY & KEEP JACKSONVILLE BEAUTIFUL LAUNCH NEW “ADOPT A PARK” INITIATIVE

October 03, 2025
The City of Jacksonville, in partnership with Keep Jacksonville Beautiful, is proud to announce the launch of the new “Adopt a Park” initiative. The program officially kicked off at a press event on Thursday, October 2nd at Tillie Fowler Regional Park.
Adopt a Park provides residents, businesses, community organizations, and schools the opportunity to build long-term connections with Jacksonville’s public green spaces. By committing to adopt a park for at least two years, groups agree to host six cleanups per year and participate in other park stewardship activities that keep spaces safe, welcoming, and vibrant.

The new initiative ties directly into the Deegan administration’s anti-litter campaign, Keep Jax Cute, Don’t Pollute.

“Jacksonville’s parks are one of our city’s greatest treasures, and we want every resident to take pride in them,” said Mayor Donna Deegan. “The Adopt a Park program is a perfect example of neighbors stepping up to protect and preserve the places where we gather, play, and connect with nature. Together, we can make sure every park stays clean, green, and beautiful for generations to come.”

The Adopt a Park initiative is modeled after the City’s successful “Adopt a Road” program and expands citizen engagement into Jacksonville’s extensive park system, the largest urban park system in the nation. With more than 400 parks, preserves, and recreational sites, city leaders see the program as a meaningful way to channel civic pride into action.

Daryl Joseph, Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, highlighted the importance of partnerships in maintaining such a vast network of public spaces.

“Our parks belong to the people of Jacksonville, and the Adopt a Park program ensures they’re cared for by the very communities that use them,” Joseph said. “This initiative not only reduces litter but also builds a stronger bond between neighbors and their local parks.”

Keep Jacksonville Beautiful Chair Harrison Conyers added that the effort supports the nonprofit’s mission of environmental stewardship.

Clean, safe parks improve our quality of life, protect our waterways, and give our kids healthy places to play,” Conyers said. “We’re excited to see residents and organizations step up as park adopters and become true champions of their community spaces.”
