7 Ways to Boost Your Energy-Gallagher_Live Well Monthly Newsletter

Low energy can steal your motivation to choose healthy foods, be physically active, and show up for those you love. Small, intentional changes to your daily habits can have a big impact on your energy levels. Whether improving your sleep, balancing your eating habits, or managing stress, there are practical strategies you can implement to recharge and feel more energized.

Explore these seven energy-boosting tips to identify which ones can help you regain your energy:

1.    Prioritize Sleep: Aim for seven to nine hours of restful sleep each night. Establishing a consistent sleep schedule, creating a calming bedtime routine, and limiting screen time before bed can all help replenish your body’s energy stores.

2.    Balance Blood Sugar: Elevated blood sugar can leave you feeling fatigued, especially for people with prediabetes or diabetes. Avoid sugary snacks and refined carbohydrates, which can cause blood sugar spikes. Instead, focus on eating balanced meals and snacks that are rich in lean proteins, healthy fats, and high-fiber carbohydrates.

3.    Limit Caffeine: While caffeine can provide a temporary energy boost, excessive intake often leads to underhydration, energy crashes, and sleep disruptions. Moderation is key, so aim for less than 400 milligrams of caffeine per day (about four 8-oz cups of coffee).

4.    Be Active: Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per week. Exercise may seem counterintuitive when you feel tired, but it naturally boosts energy by improving circulation and releasing mood-lifting endorphins.

5.    Balance Activity and Rest: Listen to your body and balance periods of activity with rest. Including short breaks throughout your day can also help to recharge your body battery.

6.    Manage Stress: Chronic stress can deplete your energy reserves. Engaging in relaxing activities like deep breathing, meditation, and gentle yoga can calm your nervous system and restore your energy.

7.    Eat Nutrient-Dense Foods: Incorporate foods rich in vitamins and minerals, such as leafy greens, nuts, seeds, lean proteins, and whole grains. These foods can help improve the way your body converts nutrients into energy.

It may take time and experimentation to identify what recharges your energy, but understanding the cause of your low energy can help you choose the most effective lifestyle strategies. A good place to start is to fine-tune one area at a time, such as increasing water or adding a daily walk after lunch or dinner. Small changes can lead to big results over time.
