The City of Jacksonville Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) is excited to announce the opening of 29 community pools for Summer 2024 – ten more than last year. As a result, hundreds, if not thousands of families will have easier access to a free way to cool off and have fun on hot days this summer.

An additional 72 lifeguards have been hired this year (292 vs. 220 in 2023), with another 70 applicants currently in training.

26 of the community pools will be open for Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 25th through Monday, May 27th; for pre-season Saturday and Sunday, June 1st and June 2nd; then for regular season Saturday June 8th through Sunday, August 4th. The 3 remaining sites are scheduled to open June 29th throughout the pool season.

“I’m very happy to announce that more pools will be open this summer and that more lifeguards will be on the job,” said Mayor Donna Deegan. “This is due to the hard work of our Parks staff, who have spent much of the last year on pool repairs and recruiting new employees. We invite everyone to enjoy the summer at their neighborhood pool!”

After listening to citizens last summer, Mayor Deegan made increased pool funding a priority in the 2023-2024 budget, including $1 million in the Capital Improvement Plan for pool maintenance, and $250,000 for an innovative lifeguard marketing campaign and salary increase out of the $25 million in task force funding passed in December.
