Council Members Rahman K. Johnson (District 14) and Nick Howland (At-Large Group 3) will host an unveiling ceremony for the Johnnie Mae Chappell Monument. The ceremony will take place on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., at Lincoln Villa Community Center, 7866 New Kings Road, Jacksonville, FL 32219.

This event commemorates the life and legacy of Johnnie Mae Chappell, whose tragic death in 1964 became a symbol of the fight for civil rights in Jacksonville. The unveiling follows the passage of Ordinance 2024-697, demonstrating the city's commitment to acknowledging its history and advancing justice.

Council Member Rahman K. Johnson (District 14) will host a public meeting to address paving concerns on Maple Lane and Cheryl Ann Lane, both of which are private roads. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 29th, at 6:00 p.m. in the Lynwood Roberts Room, located at 117 West Duval Street.

This workshop provides an opportunity for stakeholders (community organizations, lenders, HUD, etc.) to share issues that they have experienced while helping Jacksonville citizens with this process. The Regional Planning Council is partnering with the city to create a blueprint for action on removing as many pitfalls as possible.
