Reggie Gaffney, Jr., District 8

Reginald “Reggie” Gaffney Jr. is a native of Jacksonville, Florida. He attended Raines High School, where he played football and graduated with honors. Afterwards, he went on to attend and graduate from Florida A&M University (FAMU) where he obtained his undergraduate degree in Business Administration and later his Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Reggie started his career at the Duval County Clerk of Courts and is currently the Executive Director of Community Rehabilitation Center (CRC), a behavioral health facility located in Jacksonville’s Northside that services thousands of individuals diagnosed with a mental health condition and is in need of 24-hour care. Reggie says he understands that those with a mental health diagnosis are impacted in many different ways, leading them to be misunderstood, historically underrepresented and subjected to prejudice and cultural bias.
Dedicated to (1) changing the stigma surrounding mental health; (2) being an advocate for others; (3) reducing crime; and (4) to infrastructural growth, Reggie Gaffney Jr. decided to run for the Jacksonville City Council office, winning district 7 in November 2022, in March 2023 and District 8 in May 2023. Although Reggie Gaffney Jr., was born on the north side of Jacksonville, and has spent the last 25 years in what was formerly known as District 7; due to the May 2023 judge’s decision to redistrict Jacksonville, Reggie Gaffney Jr. was redrawn into the new District 8. The rapidly changing and growing District 8 is located mostly north of the Trout River and includes Jacksonville International Airport and the new UF Health North hospital. District 8 is considered the second-fastest growing district in Jacksonville, Florida. Reggie Gaffney Jr. is committed to transparency and to getting things done.
Currently, on the Jacksonville City Council, Reggie Gaffney Jr. is the Vice Chair of the Land, Use & Zoning (LUZ) Committee, a member of the Finance Committee and serves as the liaison to special committees Public Service Grants (PSG) and the Downtown Investment Authority (DIA).
Reggie Gaffney Jr. is looking forward to leading, representing and addressing what happens in District 8 as the entire city of Jacksonville transitions through a growing population, state law changes, inflation, potential housing crisis, a new mayor and new city council members.
