Reggie Gaffney, Jr., District 8

Reginald “Reggie” Gaffney Jr. is a Jacksonville native distinguished by his academic achievements at Raines High School where he played football and graduated with honors.  Afterwards his academic pursuits culminating in a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Florida A&M University (FAMU) and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Reggie started his career journey at the Duval County Clerk of Courts, showcasing his commitment to public service and community engagement.

With a steadfast dedication to (1) changing the stigma surrounding mental health; (2) being an advocate for others; (3) reducing crime; and (4) to fostering strategic infrastructural development, Reggie Gaffney Jr. transitioned to a career in public service. He successfully won to represent District 7 in November 2022, in March 2023 and District 8 in May 2023 on the Jacksonville City Council. Although Reggie Gaffney Jr., was born on the north side of Jacksonville, and has spent the last 25 years in what was formerly known as District 7; due to the May 2023 judge’s decision to redistrict Jacksonville, Reggie Gaffney Jr. was redrawn into the new District 8. The rapidly changing and growing District 8 is located mostly north of the Trout River and includes Jacksonville International Airport and the new UF Health North hospital. District 8 is considered the second-fastest growing district in Jacksonville, Florida.

In his role as a council member, Reggie currently is the Vice Chair of the Land, Use & Zoning (LUZ) Committee and a member of the Finance Committee. Additionally, he serves as a liaison to specialized committees such as Public Service Grants (PSG) and the Downtown Investment Authority (DIA), underscoring his commitment to sound governance and effective policy implementation.

As Jacksonville continues to evolve, Reggie remains dedicated to a transparent and proactive approach to leading, representing and addressing the challenges and opportunities which will develop due to growth, legislative changes, economic shifts, and changes that impacts our great city.
