City of Jacksonville Expands Warming Center Operations for Winter Season

November 17, 2025

As temperatures drop across Northeast Florida, the City of Jacksonville is taking action to help residents stay safe and comfortable during periods of extreme cold. This winter, the City has expanded its Warming Center operations to offer more locations and improved accessibility for individuals seeking relief from dangerous weather conditions.

Free Transportation to Warming Centers

To make Warming Centers easier to reach, free transportation will be provided by the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) during officially designated Cold Weather Emergencies. Residents simply need to inform the driver that they are traveling to a Warming Center to receive complimentary service.

Where to Go

Monday through Saturday, Warming Centers will be activated under normal operating hours at select City of Jacksonville facilities, including:

  • COJ Public Libraries: Accessible and climate-controlled locations.
  • COJ Community Centers: Available across multiple neighborhoods.

During periods of extreme cold, an Overnight Warming Center will be available at the Legends Center (5130 Soutel Drive) to ensure residents have a safe place to stay after hours.

Plan Ahead & Stay Informed

Residents can find a full list of Warming Center locations, hours, safety tips, and important winter-weather updates by visiting JaxReady.com/StayWarmJax or scanning the QR code on outreach materials.

The City encourages everyone—especially vulnerable populations, seniors, and those without reliable heating—to take precautions during cold weather events and seek assistance when needed.
