City Issues Community Reminder on Road Closure for LaSalle Street Drainage Improvement Project

May 14, 2025
The City of Jacksonville has issued the following community reminder for the LaSalle Street Drainage Project, which will mitigate flooding on LaSalle Street and surrounding neighborhoods in San Marco by upgrading the stormwater collection system. Please see below for the latest:

Drainage Improvements to LaSalle Stormwater Collection System
  • May 13th, 2025 - Due to ongoing construction on the drainage system, the intersection at San Marco Boulevard and LaSalle Street is currently closed to all traffic. The main detour will direct traffic away from the work site and a local detour will provide access to businesses within the construction zone. All businesses remain open and accessible. Drivers are urged to proceed carefully, plan alternate routes and expect potential delays during peak traffic hours.

Project Benefits
  • Alleviate flooding on LaSalle Street and in the neighborhood.
  • Alleviate flooding at the intersection of LaSalle Street & San Marco Boulevard.

Key Components
  • Construction of the LaSalle Street Pump Station – A new pump station will discharge collected stormwater through an outfall to the St. Johns River.
  • Reconstruction of the Outfall – The new outfall will handle an increase in stormwater capacity and improve drainage into the St. Johns River. (Greenscape Park will be rebuilt when the project is complete.)
  • Installation of New Inlets – Larger inlets with improved grading will quickly drain stormwater from roads into the collection system.
  • Installation of New Pipes – Larger pipes will increase capacity and speed up water flow through the system.

What to Expect During Construction
  • Phased Installation – Work will be done street by street and block by block to minimize impacts on residents.
  • Temporary Removal of Roadways & Sidewalks – Trees directly impacted by construction may be removed.
  • Driveway Access – Driveways may be temporarily unavailable for parking, but access to properties will be maintained.
  • Traffic Impact – Roads under construction will be closed to all traffic except residents.
  • Right-of-Way – All work will occur within the City's right-of-way.

General Construction Information
  • Duration: Varies by street.
  • Notification: Residents will be notified in advance, and neighborhood meetings will provide updates.
