Tyrona Clark-Murray, District 9

Tyrona Clark-Murray is a Jacksonville native who has lived in various neighborhoods. In the early 1970’s she lived in the Northwest with her mother and three siblings. Ten years later, the family moved to the Biscayne Estates Subdivision on the Northside. She remained there through high school graduation. Currently, Ms. Clark-Murray resides in the Woodstock Community, where she settled 23 years ago and raised two children.

Ms. Clark-Murray was educated in the Duval County Public School System. She attended Southside Estates Elementary and Highlands Junior High and graduated from William M. Raines High School in 1986. After graduation, she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Florida A&M University in 1991. She also holds a master’s degree in Education from the University of North Florida in 2009.

Ms. Clark-Murray’s career started with military service. After earning her undergraduate degree, she joined the U.S. Army intending to serve in the Reserve as a Non-commissioned Officer (NCO). She rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant before being honorably discharged in 2001. Her career continued with public service. As one who loves school, Ms. Clark-Murray has been educating Duval County students since 1993. She has taught middle and high school students in the inner city and suburbs.

Ms. Clark-Murray has volunteered to represent communities in Planning District 5 since 2016. It was unexpected that she walked into the wrong community meeting on a Thursday night in the summer of 2015. By the fall of that year, she had become a member of the Northwest Citizens Planning and Advisory Committee (NW CPAC). Her membership in the NW CPAC led to her appointment to the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization Citizen Advisory Committee (NFTPO CAC). She served on the NFTPO CAC for six years, rising to the level of Vice-Chairman, the first African American woman to earn the position. Furthermore, she served on the Community Based Crime Reduction Committee (CBCRC) for over two years.
