Journey Forward
What is Journey Forward?
Journey Forward is a transformative, community-led initiative in Jacksonville dedicated to reducing violence, strengthening neighborhoods, and enhancing the overall quality of life for all residents. At its core, it fosters trust, collaboration, and empowerment by ensuring that the people most affected by issues like public safety, youth development, and crime prevention are part of shaping the solutions.
Governed by an 11-member Board of Directors—including experts in public safety, education, public health, and community advocacy—Journey Forward takes a multi-agency, cross-sector approach. It brings together local government, nonprofits, businesses, and residents in a united effort to drive sustainable, community-centered change.
Ultimately, when people feel heard and empowered, they stay engaged, take ownership of their neighborhoods, and help build safer, more vibrant communities—together.
Why Journey Forward?
Journey Forward builds on the legacy of the original Jacksonville Journey, launched in 2008, which focused on reducing violent crime, supporting at-risk youth, and stabilizing neighborhoods. While that initiative laid important groundwork, today’s challenges require a more modern, responsive approach.
Journey Forward takes those original goals and strengthens them with updated, data-driven strategies and a deeper commitment to community involvement. By prioritizing transparency, accountability, and collaboration, the initiative ensures that progress isn’t just reactive—but sustainable and measurable over time.
This renewed effort reflects a shift from short-term fixes to long-term solutions, rooted in the belief that real change happens when communities are not only supported, but empowered to lead.
