About Seaton Creek Historic Preserve
Did you know the southernmost battle of the Revolutionary War took place in Jacksonville at Seaton? The Battle of Thomas Creek was fought on May 17, 1777 along the border of what is now Duval and Nassau Counties. An historic marker has been installed at the entrance to the city-owned Seaton Creek Historic Preserve which is believed to have been part of the battlefield. This 840-acre preserve, located north of the airport off Arnold Road, currently offers more than five miles of trails for hikers, off-road bicyclists and horseback riders. As of January 2021, plans are underway to expand public access and provide a picnic area and kayak launch on a tidal creek that connects to Thomas Creek and the Nassau River. Only a Kayak Launch. City Council changed the street name from Arnold Road to Gold Start Family Parkway, October 2021.
