About Lonnie C. Miller Sr. Regional Park

Lonnie C. Miller Sr. Regional Park is located in northwest Jacksonville. The original 101-acre site (which was expanded by 25 acres in 2000) had been owned by the Price/Ellis families since before the Civil War, until the City purchased the tract in 1991. Opened in December 1995, the park was named for Detective Lonnie Miller (1933-1995), a highly regarded 26-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office who was killed in a robbery attempt. Known for his work with the children of the community, Mr. Miller also served on the local Democratic Executive Committee and on the National Council of Negro Women and Associate Men. A portion of Lonnie C. Miller Sr. Regional Park is fenced off due to environmental concerns. A destination playground was installed in December 2019 with the hopes of visitors coming from all around to enjoy the park. This park now has a splash pad, December 2023.

Five picnic shelters are available for reservation online at https://jaxparks.coj.net/.  An amphitheater was added to the park in early 2020.  Reservations for using the amphitheater can be arranged by calling the Park Permitting office at (904) 255-7930.

Lonnie C. Miller Sr. Regional Park is adjacent to the Bob Hayes Sports Complex and the Legends Community Center.
