![]() ![]() | ![]() Duval County Extension is a partnership of the City of Jacksonville, the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS),and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Research- based education is offered by trained professionals and volunteers in agriculture, lawns, gardens and trees, professional horticulture and pest services, family and consumer sciences, and 4-H youth development. We also operate the Jacksonville Canning Center. Our mission is to continually enhance the quality of life for a unified Jacksonville through strengthening decision making, knowledge application, economic security, environmental care and leadership skills for all citizens. Sponsored by UF's extension service, the Solutions for Your Life website provides consumers and industry professionals with a one-stop source of information on family life, gardening, agriculture, the environment and youth development. Duval County Extension Open House
Join us for the UF/IFAS Duval County Extension Open House on Saturday, August 29, 10am - 1pm Discover the many research-based programs, services, and resources available to help you and your family thrive. Whether you're interested in gardening, agriculture, nutrition, youth development, or natural resources, there's something for everyone! Come explore, learn, and see how UF/IFAS Extension provides research-based solutions for your life. We look forward to seeing you there!
Current Programs and Workshops
New to Florida or inexperienced in gardening or landscaping? Welcome to Florida Gardening 201 a Florida-Friendly Landscaping series of classes.
Dates: Thursdays - September 3, 10, 17
Time: 5:30pm - 7:30pm
Location: Extension Auditorium
Fee: $10 plus fees
Participants can attend all three classes for a discount or pick and choose your class of interest:

-Right Plant Right Place
-Attracting Wildlife
A series of classes tailored to individuals who are new to Florida as well as long-time residents who are inexperienced in garden or landscape care.

Interested in raising chickens at home this year?
Join our monthly Backyard Hen Seminar hosted by the Small Farms and Alternative Enterprises Program:

Time: 2:00pm -3:30pm
Location: Extension Auditorium
Fee: $10 plus fees
The seminar is required to obtain a backyard hen permit in Duval County. By attending you will get information to help get you started on your backyard flock.
