Duval County Extension Peanut Butter Challenge

The 2026 Peanut Butter Challenge kicks off Thursday, October 1, giving Duval County residents an opportunity to start the giving season early while helping local families in need. Throughout October, the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension Duval County will once again participate in the annual Peanut Butter Challenge, a friendly statewide competition that collects peanut butter donations for local food pantries before the holiday season. The Duval County office, located at 1010 N. McDuff Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32254, will be collecting donations of unopened, unexpired peanut butter jars of any size. Other community partners already signed to accept donations include:

City Hall, 117 West Duval St, Employee Services Mezzanine Floor
Jacksonville Main Library, 303 N. Laura Street, Nicholle Burton
All Local libraries
Ed Ball Building, 214 N. Hogan Street, Rose Nettles Public Works, 10^th Floor

Florida-Friendly Landscaping is offering a Drop by Drop: Understanding and Managing Your Home Irrigation System class at the Southeast Public Library. Learn to troubleshoot your system and best practices for watering your landscape.

Date: Monday, October 5th

Time: 1:00pm - 2:15pm

Location: 10599 Deerwood Park Blvd

Fee: FREE

In this class you’ll learn the components of your irrigation system, how to troubleshoot common issues, and best practices for watering your landscape.

Interested in raising chickens at home this year?

Join our monthly Backyard Hen Seminar hosted by the Small Farms and Alternative Enterprises Program:

Date: Wednesday, October 21st

Time: 2:00pm -3:30pm

Location: Extension Auditorium
Fee: $10 plus fees

The seminar is required to obtain a backyard hen permit in Duval County. By attending you will get information to help get you started on your backyard flock.
