Research- based education is offered by trained professionals and volunteers in agriculture, lawns, gardens and trees, professional horticulture and pest services, family and consumer sciences, and 4-H youth development. We also operate the Jacksonville Canning Center. Interested in raising chickens at home this year? Join the Small Farms and Alternative Enterprises Program for the Backyard Hen Seminar, Wednesday, August 26th, 2-3:30pm at the Extension Office.

Cost: $10 plus fees

This informative class is the required first step toward getting your Duval County Backyard Hen Permit. Spots fill quickly as more residents discover the joy of backyard hens!

The Small and Alternative Enterprises Program is offering a program Getting Started Farming: What to Do and Where to Get Help workshop.

Date: Wednesday, August 12
Time: 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Location: Extension Auditorium or virtual
Fee: $10 plus fees

Come learn how to incorporate poultry into your farm. Nearly a third of Florida’s farmers have been farming for less than 10 years and are therefore considered beginning farmers and ranchers.

Join the Urban Garden Program for the Preparing Beds for Fall Planting class.

Learn what you need to do to get your beds ready to plant--whether you're growing in raised beds or in the ground.

Fee: $5.00 plus fees

We'll cover how to terminate solarizing and cover cropping; making sure your raised bed is ready for a new season, and what to do if it's not!
