City of Jacksonville announces updates as the Georgia Bulldogs and Florida Gators prepare to square off on Saturday, November 7

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - District 1 Councilmember Joyce Morgan will be joined by Jacksonville Sheriff's officers as well as members of the Arlington community concerned about 8 people being shot in the neighborhood in less than a week. The news conference is Friday, October 23, 2020 at 12:30 pm on the steps of City Hall, 117 West Duval Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202.
 

This Thursday, October 22nd, please join Kids Hope Alliance as they celebrate afterschool achievements with "Lights On Afterschool." This virtual performance from 11am to 2pm features Don't Miss A Beat, Inc. and Jacksonville Arts & Music School.

The Jacksonville Environmental Protection Board (JEPB), in partnership with WJCT and Jacksonville University (JU), will release the 2020 State of the River Report, Thursday, Oct. 22.

October 18-24, 2020 is the 15th annual National Friends of Libraries Week (view the proclamation here). Established in 1956, the Friends of the Jacksonville Public Library was created to encourage the support of libraries, increase awareness of public libraries in the community, and raise funds to enhance library services for the good of the public library system and the community.

Harrison Conyers III, the City of Jacksonville Military Affairs and Veterans Department (MAVD) operations manager, was honored by the U.S. Department of the Navy with the Meritorious Public Service Award, a prestigious civilian citation that is rarely given. During a ceremony at City Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 13, Captain Brian Weiss, commanding officer of Naval Air Station (NAS) Jacksonville, and Mayor Lenny Curry presented the medal to Conyers while highlighting his decades of dedication not only to active duty and retired military members, and their families, but to all of Jacksonville’s citizens.

The City of Jacksonville, through the Office of the Mayor, hosts quarterly Nonprofit Gateway Town Hall meetings to help local nonprofits better understand how to do business and partner with the City of Jacksonville. These quarterly Town Halls also give nonprofits a platform to regularly engage with representatives of key departments. This program is in partnership with the Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida.

Georgia Bulldogs and Florida Gators to square off on Saturday, November 7

The City of Jacksonville continues the tradition and will host the annual Georgia-Florida football game on Saturday, November 7 at 3:30 p.m. at TIAA Bank Field, where the University of Georgia will take the field against the University of Florida. This annual tradition has taken place in Jacksonville since 1933 and is considered to be one of college football’s most significant rivalries.

On Monday, Oct. 12, the free walk-up testing site at the Legends Center will relocate to the Lincoln Villa Senior Center, 7866 New Kings Road – 32219.
