Philanthropist Brette Petway Donates $30,000 to COJ’s Fostering Filmmakers Grant
Jacksonville philanthropist Brette Petway has donated $30,000 to the City of Jacksonville’s Fostering Filmmakers Grant Program, providing a significant boost to opportunities for local independent filmmakers and strengthening Jacksonville’s growing film industry.
The Fostering Filmmakers Grant, administered by the Jacksonville Film & Television Office, supports Duval County filmmakers producing independent motion pictures intended for broader distribution through theaters, streaming platforms and film festivals. The program is designed to encourage local filmmaking, develop creative talent and generate economic activity throughout the community.
“Jacksonville is home to talented storytellers whose creativity deserves to be seen and supported,” said Mayor Donna Deegan. “Brette Petway’s generous investment demonstrates what is possible when the public and private sectors come together to build a thriving creative economy. Supporting local filmmakers also helps Jacksonville tell its own story to audiences far beyond Northeast Florida.”
Petway said her contribution reflects a belief in Jacksonville’s emerging filmmakers and the stories they want to tell: “Film has the power to inspire, create jobs and showcase Jacksonville to audiences around the world. I’m proud to support local filmmakers and help give them the resources to bring their visions to life right here in our community. Investing in creative people is an investment in Jacksonville’s future.”
Todd Roobin, Jacksonville’s Film Commissioner, said private investment can amplify the impact of the City’s filmmaking initiatives: “The Fostering Filmmakers Grant is designed to help Jacksonville filmmakers take their projects from concept to completion. Brette’s generous contribution is a tremendous vote of confidence in our local production community and the future of filmmaking in Jacksonville.”
The Jacksonville Film & Television Office, a division of the Office of Economic Development, manages the City’s film incentive programs and works to attract productions while encouraging local hiring, local spending and continued growth of Jacksonville’s creative economy.
