The youngest of five sons; Dr. Johnny A. Gaffney, Ed.D. was born on June 26, 1960, to George and Louise Gaffney. He is a native of Jacksonville, Florida and attended local public schools before moving on to graduate from the University of Florida. While at the University of Florida, Dr. Gaffney played football and had an exciting college career as a 'Florida Gator'. He was a dedicated and determined athlete and took pride in achieving academic excellence. After his tenure as a 'GATOR', he was expected to participate in the NFL draft, but a major injury ruined his dream of playing professional football.

He redirected his energy to achieving academic goals and earned his first Masters Degree in Management, and a second in Business from Webster University. Continuing to reach for the stars, he set out to earn a Doctorate Degree in Education with a concentration in Organizational Leadership. A degree he earned in 2006 from Nova University. So, with all of those accomplishments under his belt, he can truly say that he agrees with Sir Francis Bacon's quote, 'Knowledge is Power.' Active in real estate, Dr. Gaffney has been a minority lender for the past 10 years and served as a banking executive (Branch President) for the former Barnett Bank of Jacksonville. While serving on non-profit boards, he has used his strong business and banking background to assist many citizens throughout his community. His policy interests lie in the areas of economic development, education, and public safety.

Dr. Gaffney is very familiar with the history and progress of Jacksonville and believes that it is his civic duty to utilize his expertise, as he works to improve the quality of life for all citizens of Jacksonville. He is extremely grateful for all of the support he received during his campaign and even more grateful to everyone that voted for him and made it possible for him to serve. Dr. Gaffney has a strong work ethic and is not afraid of the challenges that go hand in hand with tough issues. He views serving in the capacity of a Jacksonville City Council Member, as a ministry assignment from the creator. He says, 'Those of us who have been blessed with many talents, understand, to whom much is given, much is required.' His mission is to be 'on call' for the citizens of District 7.

Dr. Gaffney is the proud father of an adult daughter (Jocelyn) and a member of Open Arms Christian Fellowship Church.
