Jacksonville National Cemetery Memorial Day Program Volunteer Opportunities

The Jacksonville National Cemetery is seeking volunteers to assist in a tradition of placing flags at gravesites in preparation for Memorial Day on Thursday, May 23 at 3:30 p. m. Volunteers should arrive by 3:00 p.m. at the Jacksonville National Cemetery Committal Shelter 1.

Additionally, after the Memorial Day Weekend is concluded , these gravesite flags will be picked up on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. These events are open to the public.

The City’s Keep Jacksonville Beautiful Commission (KJB) and its partners, Hyatt Regency Jacksonville and Downtown Vision, Inc., are seeking volunteers for the 7th annual Earth Day Downtown Cleanup. Volunteers will join representatives from local businesses to pick up litter in the area inside of Liberty, Water, Jefferson and Church streets. Additionally, KJB will partner with the Springfield Preservation and Revitalization Council (SPAR) to spruce up Union and State streets from North Market Street to Main Street.

With a focus on eliminating blight in our neighborhoods the City of Jacksonville offers citizens opportunities and events that encourage appropriate disposal of waste and other debris throughout Jacksonville. One of these many efforts is through the Solid Waste Division, which is hosting a household hazardous waste (HHW) and electronic waste (e-waste) mobile collection event.
