Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Cop giving a sticker to a future Public Safety Professional

It was Christmas in July at the Annual New Town Success Zone Back to School Bash.

July 28, 2022
Families were provided with backpacks, books, school supplies, shelf stable goods, and medical services.

Volunteers from the Divine Nine, National Guard, Vision Keepers, National Council for Negro Women, State Attorney’s Office, Downtown Rotaract Jacksonville, Amazon Jax, A Hand Up to Success, the Mayor’s Violence Reduction Center, the Hub 32209, and the American Redcross united with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to distribute back to school giveaways as well as engage with residents at the largest attended Community Impact Day!

Hundreds of kids received free backpacks stuffed with a plethora of school supplies, scholastic books, and guides for their parents or guardians. We truly appreciate Sister Seat at the Table and ReadUSA for empowering our youngest citizens for their best school year yet. Interested families were also able to have school immunizations conducted thanks to Florida Department of Health Duval County and Partnership for Child Health. Adult and Senior citizens were also counseled about the importance of COVID vaccines then provided with self-test kits courtesy of Walgreens. Ambassadors from Black Voters Matter, Wealth Watchers, Jacksonville Human Rights Commission, Florida Blue, Sunshine Health, Simply Healthcare Plans presented the community with low to no cost available resources. After visiting each Community Partner’s table, attendees cooled off under the shade with frozen refreshments prepared by the Honey Dripper Lady and lunch was served by Cluckin Crab Food Truck.

Families in need also received grocery giveaways sponsored by Feeding Northeast Florida. 45 volunteers distributed 7,327 pounds of shelf stable goods to 637 people. This event could not have been a success without the generous contributions from 20 of our selfless Community Partners. We are so grateful to have provided an uplifting system of compassionate support for our most vulnerable neighbors.
