April Incidents 2008

Of the many events scheduled for the month of April, the most noteworthy are certainly the anticipated Promotional Ceremony set for Wednesday, April 23 at 9 a.m. on the first floor of Fire Headquarters, as well as the April 24 graduation ceremony for our department's latest class of new recruits. One additional item of interest, however, is the April 17th monthly Union meeting where, among many other activities, (such as the presentation of a check for the amount of $10,000 to the March of Dimes) JSO Public Information Officer Ken Jefferson will attempt to wash Ladder 10 by himself: the result of having lost the annual Guns 'N' Hoses bet with your humble blogger of this site, as the victorious team came from the Firefighters this year.

In far less appealing news, just before 6 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23rd, units responded to the report of a structure fire at 1685 Kitler Road in 49's territory. Upon arrival, Engine 49 reported that fire was literally pouring out of every window, door and other opening, including the roof, which was already completely burned off from this single family, single story all-brick construction. After an intense, 30 minute struggle to bring the fire under control, firefighters made a grisly discovery as the bodies of an adult male along with two dogs were found amidst the charred debris within the interior. Investigators were naturally called to the scene to piece together the evidence necessary in order to determine both causation and point of origin for this deadly blaze.
