April Incidents 2021
The first weekend of April, also coinciding with Easter Weekend of 2021, brought forth terrible tragedy on Saturday, 3 April just after 3 PM, when JFRD units were dispatched to the report of a residential structure fire in the 1900 block of Erline Drive. With heavy black smoke visible from the single story dwelling, crews wasted no time at all in forcing entry in order to initiate the primary search; unfortunately, the latter fireground objective did reveal one victim trapped inside, sadly already deceased by the time of discovery by firefighters. With the fire itself quickly extinguished, the State Fire Marshal's office as well as the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit were brought to the scene to perfrom the investigation, with initial details from that specific process seemingly pointing to an accidental kitchen fire as the primary cause for the deadly blaze.
That very same day later in the evening just after 7 PM, but this time in the 1600 block of 28th Street, multiple JFRD units were once again on scene for a residential structure fire that, although thankfully free of any reported fatalities, nevertheless produced a devastating result for the occupants as the home sustained severe damage necessitating the assistance of the Red Cross, in the aftermath, for 3 adults displaced from this residence. Additionally, one adult required transport to an area hospital for injuries sustained during this near tragic incident.
